Amaha Foundation — Restoring Hope
From vulnerable to valuable
Restoring hope (Amaha) for the suffering children and youth in the Kasese area who have lost hope for their future in the midst of conflict and poverty.
who we are
A Foundation Built on hope and Personal Experience
Amaha Foundation Uganda (AFU) is a registered non-profit organisation based in Kasese district, in the heart of the Rwenzori mountain region of Uganda. We exist to restore hope – “Amaha” – to children and young people who have lost sight of their future due to poverty, conflict, and abandonment.
We currently support over 64 registered young girls from different villages, helping them access education, meet basic needs, grow in faith, and discover their God-given potential. We welcome girls from all faith backgrounds — Anglican, Catholic, Full Gospel, Baptist, and Muslim.
the reality on the ground
Why This Work Cannot Wait
Kasese District and the Rwenzori region have been shaped by decades of armed conflict, natural disasters, tribal violence, and deep poverty. Young girls carry the heaviest burden — and without intervention, two or more generations are at risk of being lost.
Armed Conflict & Abductions
Since 1996, the ADF rebel group has killed over 6,000 people and carried out over 800 abductions in the region. Girls orphaned by conflict are uniquely vulnerable to exploitation. In 2023, over 40 students were killed in the Mpondwe–Lhubiriha school attack.
Natural Disasters
Seasonal floods and landslides displace thousands every year. In May 2024 alone, over 1,493 households were affected in Kasese, leaving families homeless, hungry, and without means to send their children to school.
Children and women trafficked annually in Uganda’s sex industry, according to UNICEF — one third of sex workers are under 10 years old.
Girls Denied Education
When families can barely afford school fees, it is always the girl who stays home. Without education, girls are pushed into early marriage, forced to trade their safety for basic needs like sanitary pads and food.
Poverty & Domestic Violence
Absolute poverty, alcoholism, and infidelity fuel domestic violence across households. Girls raised in these environments suffer deep psychological trauma and face a cycle that repeats generation after generation.
